Big Buddha Seeds is a UK-based seedbank founded by breeder Milo. The story really begins around 2000, when a rare Skunk #1 cutting – a “clone-only” female that had been passed quietly through an underground network of UK growers for years – came into Milo’s hands. He immediately recognised it as something special.

Rather than just growing it, he got to work. He crossed it with a pure Afghani male from his own strain library and spent two years of selective backcrossing, isolating the specific traits that made the original cutting so memorable – the flavour, the smell, the effect. By 2002, he had the first Big Buddha Cheese seeds in regular format.

In 2005, he entered Amsterdam’s 18th Cannabis Cup. Nobody outside the UK had heard of the strain. Milo made sure that changed – getting the seed into the best coffeeshops in the city so it could reach the widest possible audience. It worked.

The following year, at the 19th Cannabis Cup, Big Buddha Cheese won Best Indica Seed. That same night, Big Buddha took home Best Sativa Seed Bank for Blue Cheese. On stage, Arjan of Greenhouse Seeds publicly offered to help feminise the Cheese strain – then cutting-edge technology – and the rest is history.
