Orion F1 Seeds by Royal Queen Seeds
Orion F1 by Royal Queen Seeds is one of the strains that helped put the breeder’s true F1 programme on the map.
Behind it are three very recognisable genetic families:
Blue Mammoth Auto × Blue Dream × Amnesia
Royal Queen Seeds developed and refined these genetics as part of its F1 breeding programme, creating a compact F1 Hybrid Auto with very high THC, an XXL production classification and a complete cycle of approximately 65–70 days.
There’s another detail worth knowing too.
Royal Queen Seeds named Orion F1 its Strain of the Year for 2023.
At SeedMasters.com, that makes Orion particularly interesting. It wasn’t simply part of the first wave of RQS F1 hybrids; it became one of the standout varieties from the project.
Blue Mammoth, Blue Dream and Amnesia
There’s plenty of familiar cannabis history sitting behind Orion F1.
Blue Mammoth Auto brings the automatic side of the family into the equation, while Blue Dream contributes genetics from one of the best-known American strains of its era.
Then you’ve got Amnesia.
That adds another completely different branch of cannabis history, bringing classic European Haze-influenced genetics into the mix.
On paper, it’s quite a combination.
But as with the other Royal Queen Seeds F1 varieties, the interesting part isn’t simply the list of names.
It’s what RQS did with them.
A True F1 Hybrid Auto
Royal Queen Seeds developed Orion as part of its programme of true F1 cannabis hybrids.
Rather than simply making a conventional cross and adding F1 to the name, the breeder worked with highly uniform parent lines before creating the first-generation hybrid.
The idea behind this approach is to harness heterosis, or hybrid vigour, while producing considerably more uniform offspring.
That’s an important part of Orion F1’s identity.
For collectors interested in modern cannabis breeding, the strain represents a different approach from the highly polyhybrid genetics found across much of today’s market.
RQS specifically highlights vigour, uniformity, consistency and productivity as important characteristics of Orion.
And Orion was one of the varieties that introduced that breeding approach to its customers.
Candy, Fruit and Pine
Orion F1 has a fairly simple official flavour profile:
Candy · Fruity · Pine
Dig a little deeper and the terpene data helps explain what’s happening.
Royal Queen Seeds lists caryophyllene, farnesene, myrcene and ocimene among the major terpenes.
The overall impression is sweet and fresh.
Fruit and candy provide the sweeter side, while pine gives the profile a fresher edge underneath.
RQS particularly highlights myrcene, with farnesene and ocimene contributing further complexity.
At SeedMasters.com, we’d say Orion sits somewhere between modern sweetness and something more traditional.
The candy and fruit make it immediately approachable, but the pine prevents the whole thing becoming another straightforward confectionery profile.
Very High THC
Royal Queen Seeds currently lists Orion F1’s THC content as:
Very High
There’s no numerical percentage in the official specification.
We wouldn’t add one.
It’s always tempting to put an exact THC figure against a strain, especially when so many modern product pages compete on percentages, but there’s no reason for SeedMasters.com to invent a number the breeder doesn’t currently publish.
RQS describes Orion F1’s character as calming, physically relaxing and stoning.
The breeder also refers to euphoric qualities within its fuller description, alongside the heavier physical side.
That combination gives Orion quite a different identity from the energetic character you might initially expect after seeing Blue Dream and Amnesia in the background.
As always, cannabinoid classifications, terpene information and characteristics are breeder-supplied reference details rather than guaranteed results for every individual expression.
Compact Genetics with an XXL Rating
Orion F1 is particularly compact.
Royal Queen Seeds currently gives a height of approximately:
65–80cm
Despite that relatively small stature, RQS gives Orion an:
XXL production classification
In fact, Royal Queen Seeds describes it as one of the highest-producing F1 varieties in its collection.
Flowering takes approximately:
35–40 days
The complete cycle is listed at:
65–70 days
Those figures are worth keeping separate. The 35–40 day figure refers specifically to flowering, whereas 65–70 days represents the breeder’s complete-cycle reference.
RQS Strain of the Year 2023
One thing we’d definitely include on the SeedMasters.com page is Orion’s place in Royal Queen Seeds history.
RQS named Orion F1 its Strain of the Year for 2023.
The breeder highlighted the strain’s combination of speed, productivity, potency and uniformity, while also pointing to the response it received following the introduction of the F1 range.
We prefer being precise about this.
It isn’t an independent Cannabis Cup win, so we wouldn’t describe Orion as a “Cannabis Cup winner” or give it an ambiguous “award-winning” label.
It was specifically selected by Royal Queen Seeds as its own Strain of the Year 2023.
That’s still a worthwhile distinction, especially considering Orion was among the early strains representing the breeder’s new F1 project.

Our Take on Orion F1
At SeedMasters.com, Orion F1 feels like one of the more important varieties in the Royal Queen Seeds F1 collection.
Part of that comes down to timing.
It was among the strains that introduced growers and collectors to the RQS interpretation of true F1 cannabis hybrids, and it went on to become the breeder’s Strain of the Year for 2023.
But we also like the genetics.
Blue Mammoth Auto, Blue Dream and Amnesia isn’t a family tree you come across every day.
There’s American Blue Dream heritage, European Amnesia influence and established autoflower genetics all sitting behind the same F1 line.
Then there’s the specification.
At just 65–80cm, Orion is one of those strains where the physical dimensions don’t really match the breeder’s production rating.
RQS still gives it XXL.
And while Epsilon F1 is even quicker, Orion’s 35–40 day flowering period and 65–70 day complete cycle still put speed firmly among its defining characteristics.
The flavour rounds things off nicely.
Candy and fruit on top. Pine underneath.
Simple, recognisable and not overloaded with twenty different tasting notes.
For us, Orion F1 isn’t interesting because of one enormous THC percentage—and RQS doesn’t publish one anyway.
It’s interesting because it represents an important point in the Royal Queen Seeds catalogue: one of the original true F1 Hybrid Autos, a distinctive three-way genetic background and the variety RQS itself picked as its standout strain of 2023.
That’s enough to give Orion F1 a story of its own.
