Puff Pastry Cannabis Seeds by Humboldt Seed Company
Puff Pastry cannabis seeds by Humboldt Seed Company are part of the breeder’s newer generation of feminized genetics, and this is one we think deserves a little more attention than the name alone might suggest.
Puff Pastry is a 60% Sativa / 40% Indica hybrid bred from Obama Kush Z S1, Blueberry Cupcake and an OBKZ 57 S1 selection. That is already an interesting mix, but the real attraction for us is what those genetics have produced: chocolate, cinnamon and warm pastry aromas sitting alongside bright citrus and a proper hit of OG gas.
There are plenty of dessert strains around now. Cake, cookies, cream, sweets—you name it, somebody has probably crossed it. Puff Pastry feels a bit different because the sweetness is only half the story.
It is also an exceptionally frosty variety, with unusually large bracts, very little surrounding leaf and the sort of heavy trichome coverage that immediately makes the flowers stand out.
At SeedMasters.com, that combination of unusual terpenes, distinctive flower structure and genuine Humboldt genetics is what caught our attention.
Not Your Usual Dessert Strain
The name Puff Pastry naturally makes you think of something sweet and bakery-inspired, and there is certainly plenty of that here.
Humboldt Seed Company describes chocolate, cinnamon and churro-like aromas, while the flavour moves towards spiced doughnuts with citrus and fuel coming through behind them.
What stops it becoming overly sweet is the OG side.
There is a noticeable gassy character underneath the chocolate and pastry notes, and that gives Puff Pastry considerably more depth than a straightforward dessert hybrid. The citrus helps too, bringing a brighter edge into what could otherwise have been quite a rich flavour.
We would describe the profile as somewhere between a warm spiced bakery and classic Californian OG genetics.
Expect:
Chocolate
Cinnamon
Sweet pastry
Churro and spiced doughnut notes
Fresh citrus
OG fuel
A lingering sweet-and-gassy finish
The chocolate and cinnamon are probably the most unusual part for us. You see berry, candy and tropical fruit constantly in modern genetics, but chocolate combined with warm spice is still distinctive enough to catch our interest.
Where Does Puff Pastry Come From?
Humboldt Seed Company lists the genetics as:
Obama Kush Z S1 x Blueberry Cupcake x OBKZ 57 S1
Blueberry Cupcake brings some recognisable Humboldt dessert influence into the mix, while the Obama Kush Z-derived genetics provide the darker, more pungent side of the strain.
That helps explain why Puff Pastry does not simply taste like another blueberry dessert variety.
There is sweetness in there, but the OG influence changes the direction completely. The finished profile feels warmer, spicier and considerably more gassy than the name might have you expecting.
The genetic balance is listed at approximately 60% Sativa and 40% Indica, giving Puff Pastry a slightly brighter character than many heavily Indica-dominant dessert strains.
The Flowers Are Quite Different Too
One thing we particularly like about Puff Pastry is that it has something visually distinctive going on.
Humboldt Seed Company highlights the unusually large bracts that make up the flowers. These build into rounded, substantial-looking colas with very heavy trichome coverage and comparatively little leaf around them.
That gives the buds a clean appearance rather than the leafy structure seen in some hybrids.
The frost is hard to miss. Puff Pastry has clearly been selected with resin production in mind, and the thick trichome coverage gives the flowers a pale, almost sugar-coated finish.
Rather than relying on unusual colours to grab attention, the appeal here comes from the actual flower morphology—the oversized bracts, dense frost and clean flower-to-leaf ratio.
For us, that is much more interesting than simply breeding another purple strain.
Heavy on the Resin
Resin production is another area Humboldt Seed Company puts particular emphasis on with Puff Pastry.
The flowers develop an unusually heavy layer of trichomes, and the breeder rates the strain very highly for its overall resin potential.
That fits with the rest of the strain nicely. You have strongly aromatic genetics, big individual bracts and a thick layer of frost covering the finished flowers.
It gives Puff Pastry the appearance of a variety that has been selected for more than flavour alone.
We would actually say that is one of its strongest points. The name and chocolate-pastry terpenes might attract people initially, but the resin and flower structure make it feel like a much more complete release.
What Is Puff Pastry Like?
Despite the rich dessert name, Humboldt Seed Company describes Puff Pastry as having a fairly energetic character.
The 60% Sativa influence brings a brighter, more uplifting side, while the Indica genetics underneath add some balance.
It is described as potent rather than overwhelmingly heavy, with an overall character that leans towards energy, creativity and euphoria while still retaining a more relaxed physical element underneath.
We have seen some third-party descriptions attaching very specific THC percentages to Puff Pastry, but Humboldt Seed Company does not currently provide a confirmed figure in the breeder information we are working from.
We would rather leave an unsupported number off the SeedMasters.com product page than invent a THC percentage simply because it might look good in a specification table.

Our Take on Puff Pastry
At SeedMasters.com, we see enough dessert strains that a cake or pastry name on its own does not really excite us anymore.
Puff Pastry is different.
The chocolate and cinnamon were what first caught our attention. That is already a more interesting starting point than another generic candy profile, but then you have the citrus and OG gas underneath it.
That changes the whole character of the strain.
Instead of being relentlessly sweet, Puff Pastry seems to move from warm chocolate and spiced pastry into something brighter and considerably more pungent. We particularly like that because it gives the strain some old-school Californian depth beneath the newer dessert flavours.
The genetics make sense too. Blueberry Cupcake contributes the sweeter Humboldt side, while the Obama Kush Z selections provide the darker OG influence.
Then there are those flowers.
The oversized bracts and thick frost give Puff Pastry a look of its own, and we like that Humboldt Seed Company has focused on actual flower structure rather than relying on purple colouring or another visual gimmick.
For us, Puff Pastry by Humboldt Seed Company is one of the more interesting choices for collectors who enjoy modern dessert genetics but are getting a little tired of everything tasting like sweets.
You still get the indulgent side—chocolate, cinnamon and pastry—but there is enough citrus and OG fuel underneath to give it some proper character.
