Granddaddy Purple Strain
One of the most recognisable cannabis strains is surely Granddaddy Purple. Ever since its release in California during the early 2000s, this cultivar has been the definitive purple strain with richly coloured flowers, unmistakably grape terpene profile and relaxing indica effects. Its legacy can be felt throughout the world of modern cannabis breeding with many purple strains inheriting at least some of its genes.
Barney’s Farm has ensured the continuation of its legendary heritage while providing the growers with a reliable and high-quality example of these celebrated genetics. High resin production, great yields and stunning violet colouration combined with 25% THC will help you achieve your goal in no time.
At SeedMasters, we believe that certain strains deserve classic status due to the fact that they keep being different rather than just rely on nostalgic memories. Granddaddy Purple is definitely one of these rare cannabis strains. Its characteristic grape smell, beautiful appearance and unique indica nature helped the cultivar to stay relevant for more than 20 years now. Thus, it is definitely a must-have for the collectors who want to have something special in their collection.
Granddaddy Purple Genetics
Granddaddy Purple belongs to the most impactful indica strains ever bred. Although Barney’s Farm concentrates on maintaining this legacy rather than promoting its heritage, the finished plant retains all the properties of this legendary strain.
Strong indica genetics can be easily identified from the compact growth pattern, wide fan leaves and dense flower formation. During flowering, the plant invests all its energy into producing big, resin-rich colas while keeping the manageable structure which makes it a reliable choice for indoor growing.
The main success of Granddaddy Purple was its ability to combine striking appearance with good flowers. In contrast to other strains, the cultivar constantly provides growers with high quality, dense buds, abundant trichome production and unique terpene profile which remains easily distinguishable among the variety of modern fruity hybrids.
Its continuous popularity shows how well-thought breeding can make a strain whose influence goes far beyond one generation, and Granddaddy Purple stays the benchmark of classic purple cannabis strains until today.
Appearance
During the development, the plant becomes a compact and bushy one typical of indica strains with sturdy structure which makes it a good fit for indoor cultivation thanks to its compact height.
During the flowering period, the thick and rounded buds start to swell rapidly forming the big, dense and heavy colas with striking colours. Apart from the significant size, the flowers of Granddaddy Purple also stand out due to their vivid violet and purple colours which appear on many of its phenotypes and contrast nicely with the green foliage of the plant during harvest time.
Bright orange pistils are spread throughout the flowers before being completely covered by thick and shiny trichomes. Thanks to generous resin production, the buds acquire frosty look, adding more to their amazing appearance and turning them into the flowers which were famous for their bag appeal ever since the very beginning of its existence.
These dense and coloured buds are exactly what you expect from this legendary strain – great looking and resin-rich flowers.
Our Take
At SeedMasters.com, Granddaddy Purple is one of those strains which we always love to recommend because it truly earned its status of a classic. Long before the modern colourful hybrids became so popular, it showed that impressive bag appeal can go hand in hand with distinctive taste and great flower quality. The grape terpenes, generous resin production and unique indica genetics are still working just fine nowadays, thus it is a perfect choice for those who want to try modern classic.
